In-Home ABA Therapy in Manhattan, NY
The best place for your child to relax and be open to learning is at home, where they are familiar with the routine and the people around them.
Flying Colors ABA services in Manhattan use your home as the primary learning setting. Sessions take place in the rooms where your child already plays, eats, and rests, so we can build their skills and confidence in their natural environment.
During in-home sessions, we’ll cover situations like:
Asking for more during family dinner
Taking turns with a brother or sister
Getting ready to go outside independently
Why Home-Based ABA Therapy Works
Parents often tell us that home-based ABA feels easier to manage because there is no extra travel, or waiting room time. And because we practice skills in real situations at home, parent coaching is built into visits, so what happens in therapy carries over into the rest of the week.
ABA therapy becomes part of your regular routine, instead of a separate task that pulls you out of it.

FAQS
What is ABA therapy?
ABA therapy focuses on building everyday skills your child needs to function more independently. These can include communication, handling routines, adapting to changes, and managing behavior in different environments. A board-certified behavior analyst assesses your child’s strengths and challenges, then creates a structured plan designed around real-life situations, alongside clinical goals.
Why ABA? Why not Speech, OT, SETTS?
ABA is targeted and personalized. Instruction is based on direct assessment of the child’s behavior, and behaviors are targeted one at a time to ensure that progress is being made. However, for optimal results, the child receives all services and our BCBA trains and collaborates with everyone on the team.
Ideally, how long should it take to see progress with ABA therapy?
During ABA therapy, you should see progress within the first month of 1:1 sessions. However, depending on the case, you may only be able to see measurable progress within three months.
What should I expect from my BCBA?
Your BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) is the go-to person for anything going on with your child. She conducts a formal evaluation in which she assesses and observes your child to determine which skills need to be worked on. She hears about the history of your child’s development and what led you to reach out to Flying Colors. She collaborates with you on the goals for your child.
She’ll also provides ongoing support, supervision and training for the parents and para. The BCBA is available to come to your house to observe any issues firsthand and/or model the intervention provided.
What should I expect from my PARA?
Your paraprofessionals works directly with your child in school, at home, or around the community. They is given clear goals and directions from the BCBA on how to work with your child.
How many hours of ABA services does a child usually receive?
A child with autism is typically given 15 -30 hours of ABA per week. Insurance will decide how many hours to provide based on the report the BCBA will write and submit.
As a parent – how can I ensure that my child is receiving top quality care?
One of the points that we pride ourselves on is total transparency and quality communication between the entire team. You, as the parent, is kept fully up-to-date on every step of the process and your input is taken very seriously. If there is anything you want to add to your child’s individual curriculum, all it will take is a phone call to the BCBA. We are here for you and your child in every way possible.
How is Flying Colors different from other agencies?
At Flying Colors, we don’t settle for less than the highest level of care for your child.
We provide Top Quality ABA Services – highly individualized curriculum, developed through interviews, direct observation and ongoing evaluation by a leading expert in the field.
We truly believe in every child. We empower them to reach their goals, and celebrate successes together!
What do I do if my child is not happy to attend his therapy sessions?
Just as no adult works for free and we’re motivated to work hard by the paycheck we receive, children also need to be rewarded in order to put in their utmost efforts. Our BCBA establishes a reinforcement system individualized to your child. With a strong reinforcement system in place, your child should be excited to attend therapy sessions. If your child is not happy to attend, that indicates that the reinforcement system needs to be tweaked or redone.
My child throws tantrums without any warning. It can happen in the supermarket or in the park- is there a way to prevent this?
Yes! We train the parents on how to break the patterns and prevent this from happening. We teach the child replacement behaviors, what to do instead of throwing a tantrum.
My child has a hard time making friends. I’ve tried everything – social skills groups, 1:1 coaching… Can ABA therapy help?
Of course! The advantage of ABA is that we work in the child’s natural environment. Our goal is always to have the skills transferred to every setting. Ex: In the classroom, at home and in the community.
I heard that ABA is very rigid and robotic (ex. “Look at me. Good eye contact! Here is a chocolate chip”)…I don’t want my child turning into a robot. Is this what ABA is?
Congratulations on asking the most frequently asked question regarding ABA!
We do not use the rigid approach which is designed for specific early learners, rather, we teach using a variety of techniques that are individualized to your child. Our methods are all in a natural and realistic environment. A lot of what we do is teaching the child about the world and building awareness of their surroundings – not rigid behavior modification.
